Thank you for your interest in serving as a board member of the Board of Directors of AWARE, Inc. Serving on the board or a committee is a rewarding experience and opportunity for personal and professional growth. Completing this form will help you understand the skills and time/resource commitments of this leadership position. You may find it helpful to read through the entire application and Board Member Responsibilities before you begin filling it out.
This application will be kept confidential and on file at the agency administration office. Applications are used by the Board Governance Committee to identify and evaluate potential board and committee candidates. Applications are also available for the review of funders per standard requirements.
Board of Directors Member Responsibilities:
- Advocate for victims of domestic and sexual violence.
- Serves a minimum of one (1) three-year term on the Board. Eligible to serve multiple terms if re-elected.
- Attend a minimum of seven (7) board meetings each year and at least one (1) organizational event.
- Makes a serious commitment to participate actively in board committee work.
- Stays informed about board and committee matters, is prepared for meetings, and reviews and comments on minutes and reports.
- Builds a collegial working relationship with other board and committee members that contributes to consensus.
- Participates in the board and committee’s annual evaluation and planning efforts.
- Participates in the advancement of the strategic plan of the organization including fundraising and member recruitment.
- Promote policy to help victims.
- Fiscal oversight of cutting edge victim services agency.
Advisory Board Member Responsibilities
- Advocate for victims and promote AWARE, Inc. services.
- Attend a minimum of at least one (1) organizational event. This includes events such as health fairs, community and school events.
- Special event fundraising activities.
- Makes a serious commitment to participate actively in board committee work.
Committee Member Responsibilities
- Advocate for victims of domestic and sexual assault.
- Attend a minimum of at least one (1) organizational event.
- Makes a serious commitment to participate actively in board committee work.
- Stays informed about board and committee matters, is prepared for meetings, and reviews and comments on minutes and reports.
- Builds a collegial working relationship with other board and committee members that contributes to consensus.
- Participates in the board and committee’s annual evaluation and planning efforts.
